Tawny went to Westlake Animal Hospital in recently to get her blood drawn for the Mars Veterinary Wisdom Panel MX.
The results are in...sort of! Despite having samples from 99% of the AKC (130 breeds), Tawny's main breed could not be identified. But I now know what she is NOT: Sharpei. I was dumbfounded by that one! Also no Boxer, Labrador Retriever, Bull Terrier, Mini Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, or Chow Chow.
What it did show were trace amounts of Akita and Chihuahua. OK, not two breeds I'd put together or put in my dog. But I have to admit, after getting that news, I can sort of see those breeds in her. The finer bone structure from the Chihuahua, and some of the face, muzzle, and perhaps a little bit the ears from the Akita! Or I could just be talking myself into it.
I do believe her main breed is American Pit Bull Terrier, which they did not test for. But I've been wrong about everything else so far on this, so who knows? If Mars Veterinary adds APBT to its Wisdom Panel MX, I will do this again to see if I can put that rumor to rest.
Regardless, Tawny is cute as a bug, and I love her to pieces. A DNA test won't change that!
